McTimoney Chiropractic

The McTimoney method of chiropractic was developed by the late John McTimoney over 50 years ago. It is well known for being a precise, whole body approach to chiropractic care. It seeks to eliminate the cause, not just treat the symptoms, and through subtle adjustments, chiropractic care can relieve pain and discomfort, increase mobility and provide a route to better health.

Therapeutic Massage, also known as Swedish massage or remedial massage, works on the muscles to release muscular tension, ease pain, and improve movement in the body. It encourages blood and lymph flow thus increasing oxygen and nutrients delivered to the tissues of the body and encouraging toxins and waste products to be removed.

Whilst the physical manipulation of the muscles helps improve muscle condition and reduce muscular tension, many of the techniques also calm the autonomic nervous system, switching it from its sympathetic mode (adrenaline-driven, fast-paced, stressed) to the parasympathetic mode (concerned with relaxation, healing and cell renewal). This provides an invaluable opportunity for the body to rest on a deep level and repair itself.

Massage therapy is useful in treating deep-seated muscular tension, which can occur due to postural problems from a sedentary lifestyle, hard physical work and prolonged stress. It can be extremely useful in the management of stress when received regularly as part of an ongoing regime.

You or someone you know may be seeking counselling or psychotherapy for a wide variety of reasons.
The reasons people come to counselling or psychotherapy are as varied as people themselves. Often, clients have encountered distressing or stressful experiences or situations which they’d like to talk about in a safe setting. These might include present circumstances of bereavement, separation, or other major life transitions, or experiences from the past, such as in childhood. Others seek help in dealing with specific psychological or behavioural traits which they’d like to alter, such as compulsive thoughts or difficulties relating to people. Some people seek counselling to help them explore a general feeling that their lives are not quite right, or to cope with feelings of depression or anxiety. Still others look to counselling as part of their effort to discover or create meaning in their lives. Many people are attracted to counselling as an opportunity to undertake personal development in a safe and supportive environment. It is not at all necessary to have a ‘problem’ to find counselling useful.

People seeking general development as well as difficulties ranging from ‘minor niggles’ to profound distress impacting all areas of life have benefited from counselling and psychotherapy.

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing).

EMDR is a resource-oriented method that influences the neural pathways, re-evaluating cognitions and emotions and thereby initiating the self-healing process. EMDR utilizes bilateral stimulation (e.g., both brain hemispheres are activated), primarily through guided eye movements, or, increasingly, with tactile stimulation (tapping). In the case of trauma, the event is stored incompletely or in fragments, not as a whole. The memory is not connected with the centres for time, language and logic.

Through bilateral stimulation, such as eye movements or alternate tapping above the knee or on the palms of the hands, while at the same time concentrating on the traumatic situation, impulses are sent alternatively to the right and left hemispheres of the brain.

The previously split and unconnected networks are reconnected and recognized by the cognitive brain as ‘the past’. The fragmented memory is gradually transformed into a whole memory. The ‘emotional brain’ and the ‘cognitive brain’ are now both active and linked concerning the information around the traumatic event. This is why after a few EMDR sessions clients perceive the trauma as belonging to the past and no longer to the present: “It was bad but now it’s over”.

After EMDR people report:
- Feeling lighter and having more energy.
- The fearful feelings no longer have the hold they once did.
- Feeling much happier, emotionally balanced and more relaxed.
- Being able to leave the past where it belongs, in the past.
- Improved relationships with others.
- Better boundaries with others and more self-care and acceptance.
- Once distressing memories become less bothersome and no longer have the crippling effects they used to.

The treatment is non-invasive and works on the ethos of making change as simple and as pain free as possible. Any stress, mental or physical, causes areas in the body of restricted lymphatic flow. Lymphatic fluid is vital to the life process, bathing all the cells, it acts as a medium of exchange; trading food for the cells for the waste products. This waste contains microorganisms, damaged cells, and protein molecules that are too large or too toxic to go directly into the blood stream through the capillary walls. When the lymphatic system slows down, these waste products accumulate and stagnate which causes the heavy feeling in your limbs and the overall fatigue experienced in a sedentary life style.

How does it work?
The predominant fluid in your body is lymphatic fluid. This fluid carries nutrients from the food you eat and oxygen from the air you breathe. It also carries toxic poisons, bacteria, cholesterol and viruses away from the cells in your body. Since there is no pump (like the heart for blood) to push this fluid through the body, it is only moved by deep breathing, stretching, vigorous exercise, gravitational force and massage. Manual lymphatic drainage improves the flow of lymphatic fluid.

The pulsating massage action causes the millions of one-way valves that regulate the flow of fluid to open and close, thus allowing a healthy surge of lymphatic fluid throughout the entire body.

Homeopathy

Homeopathy is a system of medicine that was first developed and practised by Dr. Samuel Hahnemann (in Germany) in 1790 and has been continuously developed since.

Homeopathy is gentle. The remedies used are completely non-toxic and can be used alongside conventional medicines.

Craniosacral Therapy

The craniosacral therapist uses a light touch of the hands to palpate or ‘listen’ to the body’s tissues and fluids. Differences in their motion and quality can show where there are areas of stagnation and restriction.

The intention of the craniosacral therapist is to listen to the information conveyed by the client through their body to support the body’s own ability to self-heal.

Hypnosis is a natural state and one that we often find ourselves in everyday. It is simply an enhanced state of awareness, whereby the conscious mind is distracted or relaxed and the subconscious mind is open to positive suggestion and change. Hypnotherapy utilizes hypnosis for therapeutic purposes, to help people make positive change,

Studies have shown that hypnotherapy can be an effective way of reducing symptoms and easing side effects of a number of issues, including pain management, stress, PTSD, anxiety and more. Some common conditions that hypnotherapy can also help with include:

- Quitting smoking/vaping
- Giving up alcohol
- Learning to manage anxiety or stress
- Low self-esteem/confidence
- Relaxation
- Sports performance
- Public speaking
- Relationship Issues
- Fears & Phobias

**Rapid Transformational Therapy (RTT)**
RTT was developed by world renowned successful therapist Marisa Peer, over her 30 years as an award winning therapist. This technique has been influenced by, and draws upon the best aspects of hypnosis, NLP, healing, psychotherapy and CBT to form a totally unique and powerful, life changing therapy.

RTT is often able to help much quicker than other modalities, many people need only one session to understand the root of their issue and begin to release it for good. More complex issues can take slightly longer, but normally no more than three sessions.
How does RTT work?
RTT enables us to communicate directly with the subconscious mind (which is where most issues, blocks and limiting beliefs reside). We access the root cause of the issue, which leads to an understanding of why and when it started. This understanding is powerful and we then work together through the process of helping you to LET GO of the issue for good, empowering you to be FREE and to move forward positively, creating the life you want!
You will be provided with a personal transformation audio, made specifically for you and which you will listen to daily for 21 days. This rewires your brain to fully accept your new beliefs so that you can make the changes you want a permanent part of your life.

**PSYCH-K®️**
If there's an area of our life where we're not truly thriving, this can often be caused by subconscious limiting beliefs that we're not fully aware of.

PSYCH-K® is a simple and effective way for you to change any beliefs that are blocking you from reaching your goals in life.

In a session, you will be guided to define your present situation (problem). The PSYCH-K®️ Practitioner will help you to identify and transform subconscious beliefs/programs that are holding you back.
To change unhelpful subconscious programs, this technique works with you, using a unique combination of resources including; Muscle Testing, Whole-Brain Integration, and Goal Clarification, among others.

PSYCH-K®️ enables you to communicate directly with your subconscious mind in order to safely and effectively change subconscious beliefs.

This is what Author of the Biology of Belief, Bruce Lipton said:

“PSYCH-K is one of the most effective ways on this planet to change [subconscious] programs and write them the way you want them. Then you can manifest your wishes and desires, which I know personally because I've done that.”

PSYCH-K®️ can help you improve any of these areas of life where you may feel stuck:

- Relationships
- Self-Esteem
- Confidence/Personal Power
- Finances
- Health/Body
- Grief/Loss
- Spirituality

Miriam initially trained in medicine (at Cardiff University, 2006-2012), and worked for a few years as a junior doctor before moving fully into medical education - training physician associate and medical students (at St George’s, King’s, and Queen Mary University of London).

Following a longstanding passion for understanding what makes us tick, Miriam completed an introductory certificate in psychotherapy and counselling (Regent’s University, 2015), and a diploma in transformational life coaching (Animas Centre for Coaching, 2018-20). Coaching provides the perfect venn diagram of her experience and interests - understanding people, creating compassionate listening spaces, and cultivating collaborative learning and growth.

As a child she would hover her hands over any area where someone was experiencing pain, believing that she could take their pain away, she would be the first person to appear when someone had hurt themselves, to help nurse that person, even if this meant cleaning a wound or offering some water. She later discovered that she could develop her healing potential by studying to become a Usui Reiki Master. She has a keen interest in nutrition, she is a firm believer that ‘all disease begins in the gut’, ‘Hippocrates’. Crystal likes to work intuitively and holistically. She is always developing her skills to further broaden her knowledge of health and how the body works. She is further developing her professional CPD through Kinesiology allergy and intolerance testing (assessing the neurological response to foods and substances) and Iridology (the study and analysis of the iris of the eyes). Crystal has a particular interest in women’s hormones and trauma and how the ‘body keeps the score’. Since her journey into herbal medicine she is a different person. The transformation helped her mentally and physically, something she once thought could not be possible. Crystal was diagnosed with arthritis in her early 30’s and showed clear signs of chronic fatigue as well as having severe eczema and hay fever, all of which were debilitating. Thanks to the use of adaptogenic herbs to manage stress levels and insight to managing her health and well-being, sheis healthier and happier and more energetic than she ever was in her late 20’s and all through through her 30’s. Crystal’s own journey inspired her to want to help others on their own path to optimum health and wellness. Crystal has studied Usui reiki, anatomy and physiology, pathophysiology, clinical skills, phytochemistry, plant medicine, herbal therapeutics and nutrition. Crystal can help clients with a variety of symptoms including: Trauma, stress, anxiety, depression, intolerances, fertility; hormonal imbalances, peri/menopause, menstrual problems, chronic illness, acute illness, plus more.

OSTEOPATH

Mike is pleased to join the team at DTR. As well as osteopathy he also offers medical acupuncture (dry needling).

Acupuncture / dry needling can be very effective in reducing pain, encouraging blood flow into tight muscles or damaged tissue, the result of which is a calming down of the nervous system. It can be particularly good for problems such as Tennis elbow and Frozen Shoulder.

Mike is also a professional musician having performed around the world in many different settings including music for film, television and theatre. Hurting his back in 1989 whilst on tour in Germany and being treated by an osteopath with great results ignited his interest in this field, which eventually led to him qualifying with a BSc (Hons) in Osteopathy from the London School of Osteopathy in 2006. Mike is a member of the British Medical Acupuncture Society and has a Masters Diploma in Sports massage with Active Foundation.

Movement is a sign of life, all living things are constantly moving even if they appear not to be. The body is in a dynamic state always adapting and trying to defend and repair itself. Modern life dictates that we spend long periods sitting, at a desk, in a car, on a train, in front of the television. As a result, Mike sees many people with pain to the upper back, neck head and shoulders, often the result of sitting at a computer for long periods of time. As well as treatment, Mike can give advice on workplace ergonomics, exercises and stretches.
